Cinematic Sisterhood: Ghost in the Machine [Save the Date]

September 26 @ 6:16 PM - 8:00 PM

Before the internet was everywhere, one filmmaker saw exactly what it could become. Ghost in the Machine is a 1993 sci-fi horror film from director Rachel Talalay, a woman who knew how to make the technology around us feel terrifying. When a serial killer’s consciousness uploads into the electrical grid during a freak accident, every appliance, every device, every connection becomes a potential weapon. It’s campy, it’s clever, and it holds up.

Cinematic Sisterhood audiences will remember Talalay from last season’s retrospective. This is a chance to revisit her work, and to think about what it meant for a woman to be telling stories about technology and danger in 1993.

In 2025, we awarded a special grant to Milwaukee Film to create Cinematic Sisterhood, a monthly series of films that celebrate women’s voices on and off the screen. Milwaukee Film has since secured additional support to carry it forward, and we’re proud to continue as a promotional partner.
