WF Civic Break

May 28 @ 12:30 PM - 1:00 PM
Free

WF Civic Breaks are short, accessible briefings designed to cut through the noise around timely civic and policy topics. Created to fit into a busy day, each session offers clear context and key takeaways for anyone who wants to stay informed and engaged in what’s shaping our community. Click here to learn more about WF Civic Breaks.

Perinatal mental health conditions affect 1 in 5 people and are now the leading cause of pregnancy-related death in the United States. In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re partnering with Sarah Ornst Bloomquist of Mom’s Mental Health Initiative for a Civic Break covering the landscape of perinatal mental health: how it affects daily functioning, its intersection with disability, and what current data tells us about risk during the postpartum year.

We’ll also walk through Wisconsin’s recent postpartum Medicaid expansion: what changed, why it matters, and what to watch as implementation unfolds.

You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of the landscape and what it means for maternal health and access to care.

Registration required (see below). Free to attend.

WF Civic Breaks offer the briefing; WF Laundry Nights offer the space to talk it through together.

ABOUT SARAH ORNST BLOOMQUIST, PMH-C, CFLE

Sarah Ornst Bloomquist has walked alongside hundreds of struggling moms on the path to feeling better. As executive director and co-founder of Moms Mental Health Initiative she’s the heart of the organization, which she helped build after struggling to find adequate help for postpartum depression and anxiety following her son’s birth.

Sarah is a Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) and is perinatal mental health certified
(PMH-C). As a leader, advocate and speaker, Sarah brings lived experience and clinical knowledge to her work breaking down barriers to effective treatment and helping moms find hope in the process.

Born and raised in the greater Milwaukee area, Sarah is a cheesehead at heart, but spent many treasured years in Indiana. She’s a proud mom to two, enjoys playing soccer, hanging out with friends and neighbors, and taking her rescue dogs for hikes.
