WF Special Screening: The Piano

July 31 @ 4:00 PM - 7:30 PM
$9 – $11

Some films do more than stay with us. They help us see the questions an era was asking.

Join us for a casual Women’s Fund gathering around Milwaukee Film’s screening of the newly restored film The Piano, the 1993 landmark we chose to represent the first decade of our 40-year story. As we celebrate 40 years, we created WF Movie Posters and this film inspired our Decade 1 poster.  Learn more here.

Written and directed by Jane Campion, the film follows Ada, a pianist navigating an arranged marriage and a world determined to limit her choices. Its exploration of voice, agency, and the fight to be fully heard reflects a central tension of our earliest years: women were gaining visibility and influence while still working to claim the power to shape culture, institutions, and community life.

Come experience the film with us, and revisit one of the stories helping us look back at where we began and imagine what comes next.

We’re proud to be a Milwaukee Film community partner for this screening.
