WF Community Book Read 2025: Let’s Read, Reflect and Connect Together!

What does it mean to belong? How do the choices we make define our future? These are just some of the questions at the heart of our WF Community Book Read 2025 selection: Infinite Country by Patricia Engel.

This breathtaking novel explores the heart-wrenching reality of migration, family separation, and the unbreakable bonds of love while also shedding light on gender equity and the unique struggles faced by women in the immigrant experience.

Told through the eyes of a Colombian family divided between two countries, the story follows Talia, a teenage girl determined to reunite with her loved ones after being sent to a correctional facility in Colombia.

With lyrical prose and unforgettable characters, Infinite Country is both timely and timeless. Through its deeply personal and intersectional storytelling, the novel reminds us that migration policies and social structures impact women — and that their voices, struggles, and dreams deserve recognition.

Erika Petty, executive director and lead attorney at LOTUS Legal Clinic
Fernanda Jimenez-Hauch, community organizer and founder of Comité Sin Fronteras.

Erika provides free legal services and trauma-informed support to survivors of sexual violence. She leads with compassion and conviction, helping survivors navigate the legal system.

Fernanda is a DACA recipient from Ecatepec, Mexico, who proudly calls both Mexico and Wisconsin home. She is a longtime organizer and abolitionist in the immigrant rights movement.
